City of Fargo reminds residents, businesses to clear off sidewalks

FARGO — Even though most sidewalks in the Fargo-Moorhead metro have been cleared since last weekend's snowstorm, there are still quite a few that need care.

In Fargo, the city says the biggest offenders are businesses, and on Monday, Jan. 6, it gave out notices reminding many of them to shovel sidewalks if they haven't already.

Those businesses will have a day to remove the snow, otherwise they'll have to pay for a contractor to do it.

"We're at a point, as of today, that everybody should be cleaned up; everything should be done," said Ben Dow, Fargo's public works director. "So, if we find them (Monday) when we go out to inspect, they will be issued their first notice."

If you live in West Fargo, you have two days after you get a notice to remove snow, while in Moorhead, it's until 9 p.m. or after it's done snowing.

Dow said he has fielded over 500 complaints for sidewalks that aren't plowed, while Moorhead has only gotten 52.
