MOORHEAD - Clay County will provide free water testing for residents who have had their water supply affected by floodwaters.

The free testing will be for total coliform bacteria, according to a release from the county. Test kits can be obtained at the Clay County Family Service Center, Room 105, 715 11th St. N.. Hours for obtaining test kits are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Call (218) 299-7195 or (218) 299-7216.

If the well casing has come in contact with floodwaters, the release stated, consider the water supply contaminated. Before using the water for drinking or cooking, flush the well out onto the ground, not through the septic system, and collect a sample for bacterial analysis.

The release states that if the floodwaters came within 50 feet of a well casing, the water should probably be tested for bacterial contamination.
