Clay County and Moorhead will participate in a statewide tornado drill on April 22 as part of Severe Weather Awareness Week.

The National Weather Service will issue a simulated tornado warning at 1:45 p.m., and outdoor warning sirens will be activated in Clay County and Moorhead.

A second drill will occur at 6:55 p.m. for families and second-shift workers.

"Every family and business should take this opportunity to put weather emergency plans into action," Clay County Emergency Manager Bryan Green stated in a news release.

According to National Weather Service data, tornadoes have occurred in every Minnesota county at sometime during the past 60 years. Clay County has experienced several tornadoes since 1950.
