Clayton Ahrlin
Clayton Jerome Ahrlin, 90, of Galesburg, ND, died Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at Morris, MN.
Clayton was born July 27, 1913, at Warwick, ND to Adolph and Sophia (Larson) Ahrlin. He grew up in Hatton, ND, where the family operated a hotel, and later, Ahrlin's Café. He graduated from Hatton High School, and went on to Mayville College, where he met Helen Rust. They were married June 28, 1940, at Galesburg. In 1960 he earned his MA degree at UND.
He taught at Dover Consolidated near Wimbledon, ND, Felch, Michigan, and Portland, ND. He was superintendent of schools at Galesburg, ND seven years, followed by fifteen years at Grandin, ND. For a few years he sold Lutheran Brotherhood insurance, and in later years worked as an adjuster for hail insurance companies, and also sold crop insurance.
Clayton was active in various church and community organizations and committees. He was a Boy Scout leader through the 1940's and 50's and received the Silver Beaver Award. During this period he was also Boy's Work director for Eastern ND.

Clayton enjoyed hunting, traveling, camping, reading, football, cooking, restoring antique cars, and especially time spent with his family. He will be remembered for his warmth and compassion, his faith, his positive attitude, and his enjoyment of life.
Clayton is survived by his wife, Helen, of 63 years; son, James (Ginny), Virginia, MN; daughters, Denise (Tom) Olson, Morris, MN, Laurel (Don) Ortman, Harvey, ND; brother, Hollis (Mildred), Rapid City, SD; and grandchildren, Michael Olson and Caroline and Tracy Ortman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Francis, Earl, William, and Willis, and grandson, Timothy Olson.
Funeral: 11:00 AM Monday, November 24, 2003 at Elm River Lutheran Church, Galesburg, ND.
Visitation: Sunday, November 23, 2003 from 3-5 at Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, ND, and on Monday one hour before the funeral in the church.
Burial: Elm River Cemetery, Galesburg, ND.
