Ursula Hegvik of Fargo is in the business of organization.

She started Smart Spaces this summer, a business that transforms cluttered closets, messy mudrooms, and disorderly laundry rooms into neat, organized spaces.

Hegvik creates kids' closets using baskets, drawers, and hanging poles that are lower so children can learn to put their clothes and toys away.

She also works with garages, pantries, home offices and craft rooms.

Hegvik offers free in-home consultations where she looks at clients' space and shows them through drawings and pictures how to improve it.

Hegvik worked for California Closets, a national customized storage solution company, in the Twin Cities for two years before moving to Fargo where she decided to start her own company. She started taking appointments for Smart Spaces in June and said business has been going well.

"It's not just the extra shelves and poles or the extra drawers," Hegvik said. "It's more of a peace of mind. When everything has a place, then you can keep it more organized, it looks better, and it just feels better when you walk into that space and it's no longer a garage sale waiting to happen."
