Code Red weather alerts available in Clay County

The city of Moorhead and Clay County have partnered with Emergency Communications Network, providers of the Code Red emergency communications system, to provide free weather warnings to residents who opt for the program.

All residents of the city or county can register for the service on the city of Moorhead website, www.cityofmoorhead.com .

People can also sign up by calling the Clay County Sheriff's Department at (218) 299-5151.

Residents can choose one or more alert options: tornado, thunderstorm or flash-flood warnings that are issued by the National Weather Service.

Residents who sign up will receive phone alerts when warnings are issued for their specific area.

Incoming alerts are identified through caller ID with "Emergency Communications Network," or the phone number, (866) 419-5000.

If the message needs to be heard again, residents can redial the number on their caller ID.

Residents now signed up to receive standard Code Red emergency notifications must specifically sign up to receive the weather alerts.
