A controlled burn in the prairie area of the Xeriscape Demonstration Garden in Fargo is planned this morning, a news release stated.

The garden is outside the Fargo Water Treatment Plant at 13th Avenue South and Fourth Street.

If weather conditions are favorable, the burn will begin about 10:30 a.m. It will be conducted by Prairie Restorations and the Fargo Forestry Department, the release said.

The burn is designed to remove weeds and other undesirable species, stimulate growth of existing native plants, and increase public awareness of management techniques and the benefits of prairie plantings, the release said.

Prairie Restorations specializes in native and prairie landscaping, the release said. Its workers will oversee the controlled burn and any needed preparations.
