FARGO – A convicted sex offender has been charged with forcing a woman into a Fargo hotel and raping her last year.
Roger Alan Richwagen, 53, was charged Thursday in Cass County District Court with Class AA felony-level gross sexual imposition, which upon conviction carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years.
Richwagen is being held in a North Dakota prison.
Last March, Richwagen forcibly took a woman to a room at a Motel 6 here and raped her, according to the criminal complaint filed in Cass County District Court. The woman was later picked up by her friend and taken to a hospital, where a sexual assault kit was performed.
Police interviewed Richwagen, who denied knowing the woman or having any contact with her, the complaint says. Richwagen said he was "just downtown having pizza that night." He agreed to have a sexual assault kit performed on him, the complaint says.

The kits were sent to a crime lab and showed a DNA match, the complaint says.
Richwagen was required to register as a sex offender after he was convicted in 1996 of felony sexual battery in a Florida court.
