Kevin Cramer and Brad Crabtree held their first debate today as candidates for the North Dakota Public Service Commission.

While they may have disagreed on some of the state's energy policies, they both said PSC plays an increasingly important role in North Dakota's future.

The main topic was the state's energy sector, including the oil boom out west and the increasing demand for renewable energy like wind power.

Crabtree, the Democratic challenger, said the state needs to look toward energy efficiency, while Cramer - the Republican incumbent who's served on the commission since 2003 - said North Dakota is already efficient.

The two met before the North Dakota Newspapers Association's convention in Fargo.
