Dale C. Severson, 55, Cooperstown, ND, was born August 15, 1948, in Moorhead, MN, the son of Clifford and Elayne (Allen) Severson. He lived with his family in Barnesville, MN until 1959 when they moved to Riverdale, ND, and then to Pierre, SD in 1962 where he graduated from high school in 1966. He attended and graduated from Trinity Bible College in Jamestown, ND, in 1969 with a degree in Theology and Business and also played college basketball. He moved to Cooperstown, ND, at the age of 21 and started in the grocery business and has lived there ever since. He married Bonnie Schindler August 16, 1968. He later married Terri Zaun January 31, 1978. He died Tuesday, November 4, 2003, in his home.

Dale had been the owner of Severson's Super Valu, Cooperstown, ND, for 34 years and also owned the Finley (ND) Super Valu for a time. He was named 2001 Grocer of the Year by the North Dakota Grocers Association. He was Past President of the Cooperstown Park Board, a Lifetime Member of the Cooperstown Fire Department, a 30-year member of the Cooperstown EMT ambulance, a 6-year member on the Governors Council-EMS, Past President of 6-State Heartland EMS Coalition, President of ND EMS Association for 12 years, and Past President of Trinity Lutheran Church Council. He was an EMT and CPR instructor for more than 25 years. He received the Founders Award for the State of North Dakota EMT's in 1994. Dale was first elected as a North Dakota State Representative in 1998 for District 23, a northeastern region that includes parts of five counties and was re-elected to a four-year term in 2002. During the 2003 Legislature, he was vice chairman of the House Industry, Business and Labor Committee. He was a co-sponsor of four wind energy bills, legislation for a standardized 911 emergency dispatch, and HB1196-Long Term Care. He was a graduate of The Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Dale was a very active member of his community and will be missed by everyone, especially his loved ones.

Dale is survived by four daughters, Dawn (Jeff) Sprunk, and Brian, Bradley, Alex, Mariah, and Tabetha, Leonard, ND, Tina (Kevin) Borg and Rachel, Elisabeth, and Samuel, Alton, NH, Shannon (Jeremy) Archer, Richfield, MN, and RaeAnn Severson and Joshua, Fargo, ND; one son, Nathan Severson, Grand Forks, ND; his parents, Clifford and Elayne Severson, Pierre, SD; two brothers, Lou (Jackie) Severson, and Kaye, Jon, and Michael, Fargo, ND and Lonny Severson, Hooper, UT; and one sister, Pam (Mike) Sherman and Timothy and Matthew, Chamberlain, SD.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Hunter and Brian Severson-Molony.

Funeral services will be at 10:00am on Saturday, November 8, 2003, in Trinity Lutheran Church in Cooperstown, ND. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 on Friday, November 7, 2003, in Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home, Cooperstown, ND. Graveside services will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND at 4:00pm on Saturday, November 8, 2003.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to the Cooperstown EMT Services.
