Dangerous wind chills have prompted the National Weather Service to issue a wind chill advisory for the Red River Valley through Friday morning.
In addition, the weather service issued an extreme cold advisory for a large swath of northwestern Minnesota.
"An arctic air mass combined with the wind will produce wind chill values of minus-25 to minus-40," the weather service said on its website.
Calm conditions are expected for a brief time tonight before winds in-crease from the southeast.
The advisory issued lasts until 9 a.m. Friday.
