Daniel Walker, 81, Mayville, ND, died Thursday, August 28, 2003, in Union Hospital, Mayville, ND.

Daniel Greenwood Walker was born in Fargo, ND, on November 13, 1921, to Charlotte (Ewen) and Harry Walker. He attended school at Mayville, graduating from Mayville High School and Mayville State College. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1942 to 1945. He spent time in a P.O.W. camp in Germany.

Daniel married Marguerite Gaffney on July 11, 1945. Daniel taught social studies and coached track, basketball and football in Northwood, ND until moving back to Mayville, where he Farmed and was a rural letter carrier for 37 years. He retired in 1987.

Daniel was active in the Knights of Columbus, having served as Grand Knight. He was also Scoutmaster for the Mayville Boy Scout troop for many years. He fondly remembers his time as a Mayville State College track "Star," as shown through his continuous support of the MSU lettermen Club and M-300. He loved his family, his Church, the Twins and Vikings, pinochle, bridge, Mayville State University and local sports. Dan will be remembered for his kind heart, generous nature, and sense of humor. He will be missed.

He is survived by his loving wife and eight children: Cheryl Esch, Racine, WI; Donovan (Anne), Libby, MT; Dwight (Mari), St. Cloud, MN; Mark (Mary Lou), Fargo, ND; Scott, Eveleth, MN; Kim, Birmingham, AL; Patrick (Michelle), Lisbon, ND; Fred and his fiancée, Michelle, Bismarck, ND; sister-in-law, Jane Kegel, Moorhead, MN; nieces and nephews, Robert Walker, Michael (Diane) Walker, Laura (Gerald) Sturn; Larry (Nancy) Walker; and cousins Mary (Bruce) Campbell, Daniel Clyde Ewen, Jo Ewen, Anne Ewen, Beth Ewen, Jon (Betsy) Ewen, Mark (Karen) Ewen; 22 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

His parents, Charlotte and Harry Walker, his brothers, Benson and Robert, cousin, Clark Ewen, and nephew, Timothy Walker, preceded him in death.

Funeral: 9:30 AM Monday, September 1, 2003, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Mayville, ND.

Visitation: Sunday, from 5-7 PM and with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Church and one hour before the funeral.

Burial: Mayville Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
