Dean Woodruff, 78, Wahpeton, ND, died Monday, November 24, 2003, at his home.

The funeral service will be Sunday, November 30, 2:30 PM at Bethel Lutheran Church, Wahpeton. There will be visitation starting at 4 PM, and a 7:30 PM prayer service Saturday, at Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton. There will also be visitation one hour before the service at the church on Sunday. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Wahpeton.

Dean Melvin Woodruff was born March 31, 1925, the son of George F. and Theolyn (Christianson) Woodruff, in Champion Township near Tintah, MN. He grew up and attended rural school in the area. He married Dora Donley on September 16, 1944, at Doran, MN. The couple lived in the Doran-Campbell, MN area for several years, before moving to Wahpeton. Dean started working for I.E. Lillegard in Wahpeton, a career which lasted for over fifty years. Dora passed away March 3, 1986. On March 20, 1993, he married Norma Newborg at Bethel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton. They made their home in Wahpeton. Dean retired from Lillegard's in 2001.

Dean was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and the Eagles. Dean took great pride in his work, which became his labor of love. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cards, dancing and took up golf in recent years. For 27 years the family enjoyed summers at Ottertail Lake, Dean was known to take anyone and everyone water skiing if they wished. Since 1997 the couple wintered in Texas.

Dean is survived by his wife Norma, Wahpeton; his son, Douglas and daughter-in-law Cheryl, Wahpeton; step-son, Kevin Newborg and fiancée Marcia Gleason, both Fergus Falls, MN; a step-daughter, Holly Peasley, Dayton, Ohio; three grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters, Nell Ramming, Beatrice, NE, Vera Lancaster, Minnetonka, MN, LeRoy (Jo) Woodruff, Cheyenne, Wyoming; Robert (Betty) Woodruff, McCook, NE; a son-in-law, James Schultz, Dwight, ND; an aunt, Sylvia Keller, Wahpeton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Dora, and his daughter Barb Schultz, June 30, 1999.
