A 20-year-old Detroit Lakes, Minn., man died Sunday when the snowmobile he was driving rolled into a ditch near Pearl Lake, southwest of Detroit Lakes, the Becker County Sheriff's Office reported.
The accident occurred just after 9 p.m. when the man, driving a friend's snowmobile, apparently lost control of the vehicle on a township road, according to the sheriff's office.
The driver was not wearing a helmet and suffered severe head injuries, the sheriff's office reported. He was transported to St. Mary's Regional Health Center in Detroit Lakes, then airlifted to MeritCare Hospital in Fargo.
He later died of his injuries.
The victim's name has not yet been released, pending notification of relatives.
