MOORHEAD - A 54-year-old Moorhead man is in custody and facing charges after police allege he assaulted his wife and threatened a cab driver over a disputed fare early Saturday morning.

According to charges filed Tuesday in Clay County District Court, after Emerson Keith Chasingbear and his wife took a taxi to their Moorhead residence around 3:45 a.m., Chasingbear became upset about the fare and refused to pay.

The driver told police that when Chasingbear's wife paid a portion of the fare, the man hit her about 10 to 20 times, documents state.

Chasingbear then allegedly went to the driver's side window of the cab and began striking it with his fist. He also made a handgun gesture and said "I will shoot you," and made shooting noises, the cab driver told officers.

Chasingbear is also accused of threatening to kill police as he was being arrested, according to court records.

The woman claimed in a letter to prosecutors that she had not been assaulted, court documents say.

Chasingbear is charged with domestic assault and making terroristic threats.
