Democrats in Fargo's District 44 have nominated legislative candidates to oppose the all-Republican delegation now serving the northeast Fargo district.
Cheryl Bergian, di-rector of the North Dakota Human Rights Coalition, was nominated for the Senate.
Bergian has been director of the coalition since 2002 and before that worked as an attorney with legal services programs in North Dakota and Minnesota. She is also a past chairwoman of the Fargo Human Relations Commission. She has been active in attempts to create a North Dakota human rights commission and to include gays and lesbians in the state Human Rights Act.
She also was involved in North Dakota Progressive Coalition's efforts to create accountability in state economic development programs and state aid to elderly and disabled residents so they can remain living in their homes.
Eric Monson and Michael Jenkins were nominated to run for the House.

Monson worked for Lutheran Health Systems in its corporate office in Fargo for more than 20 years. When the company was acquired and its headquarters in Fargo closed, he founded Novus LLC, a health care and strategic management firm. He is a military veteran and is on the board of Fraser Ltd., a nonprofit organization that provides housing and services to developmentally disabled citizens.
Monson is also chairman of the board of the Anne Carlsen Center for Children's Foundation. He also has been a chairman of the health care division of United Way.
Jenkins works for U.S. Rep. Earl Pomeroy on veterans' and defense related issues, including representing the congressman on National Guard issues in the state. He serves as Pomeroy's representative on the governor's task force on base retention and does constituent case work for Pomeroy in the eastern part of the state.
He is involved in veterans' groups and scouting.
