ST. PAUL -- The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Non-Game Wildlife Program is conducting an informal survey to determine what wild birds are Minnesotans' favorites.
Minnesota is home to 428 species of birds, but only a few tend to create interest and excitement among nature enthusiasts, said DNR spokeswoman Nancy Hounder.
The DNR will use the survey to determine which birds people want to know more about -- and the agency will design programs showing people how to attract certain species to their property, Hounder said.
A survey conducted about 15 years ago found the loon and chickadee to be the favorites.
To take part in the survey, list on a postcard your three favorite birds and send it by the end of February to the DNR Non-Game Wildlife Program, 500 Lafayette Road, St. Paul, MN 55155-4025.
