A north Fargo business owner got two shocks Friday.
The first was when Denis Oye learned his dog had died.
The second was when he learned how it happened.
Oye, an owner of Hubert Oye & Sons Construction, said family members found Spencer, his 13-year-old German shorthaired pointer, lying dead in the parking lot of the business early Friday.
At first they figured the dog died of old age. Then they noticed the animal's ribs were broken.

Video recorded by cameras outside the business showed a vehicle running over the dog.
That bothered Oye, but not as much as what the video showed next.
Oye said the driver got out of the vehicle, watched Oye's dog die, then walked into the business to inquire about buying a certain type of soil.
They didn't have it but advised the man where he might find it.
While leaving the business, the man paused to look at the dog again before driving off.
At no point did the man display emotion.
Oye contacted authorities but they said it's not something they can pursue.
"It's a civil matter,'' he said, and he plans to bring legal action if he can identify the man. "He (Spencer) came to work with me just about every day of my life," Oye said, adding he had a difficult time understanding the driver's actions.
