GRAND FORKS - Forecasters announced Thursday that they expect to see a dramatic rise in the coming weeks for Devils Lake.

Coulees draining into the lake will continue flowing through the cold snap, which will bring snow to the southern Red River Valley.

Flows into Devils Lake are expected to produce a 2- to 3-foot rise in the lake over the next three to six weeks, according to the National Weather Service.

The lake, which recently reached a record elevation, is less than 6 feet from reaching the level when it will begin spilling into a drainage leading to the Sheyenne River, which flows through Valley City, Lisbon, Kindred and West Fargo, among other communities.
