ISANTI, Minn. - A motorist stepped forward Friday evening as Isanti County authorities searched for the driver of a pickup truck that fatally struck a 15-year-old skateboarder the night before.
Late Friday, the Isanti County sheriff’s office said a man had contacted them about the apparently accidental collision near Isanti.
At about 8:15 p.m. Thursday, authorities found Antonio Demeules of Isanti lying in the middle of 285th Avenue Northeast, just east of Minnesota 65.
Demeules was taken to Cambridge Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He had been hit while skateboarding, police said. A witness reported seeing him in the middle of the road earlier.
Based on surveillance video from a nearby business, the sheriff’s office was looking for a white pickup truck with a topper. The vehicle was surrendered Friday night and the owner was fully cooperating with authorities, the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators said they didn’t suspect malicious intent and that the driver might not have realized the collision had happened since Demeules was small-statured, wearing dark clothing and skateboarding in the middle of the road.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation was continuing and expected to release more information Monday.
