DULUTH, Minn. -- The Scott County attorney has determined a Duluth police officer was justified in shooting and killing an enraged teen armed with a baseball bat.

The Duluth News Tribune reports Wednesday that Scott County Attorney Pat Ciliberto reviewed the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension's investigation of the Aug. 5 incident.

Officer Jeffery Keast shot 17-year-old Joey Carl once in the chest after Carl apparently smashed the window of Keast's patrol car and knocked out the driver's side window.

Carl died in the street near his parent's home.

The BCA report released Monday says Carl attacked Keast's car when the officer pulled up. Keast put his patrol car in reverse to avoid Carl but when the car got stuck, Carl continued swinging the driver's side window. Then Keast fired.
