Edmund G. Vinje II

Edmund G. Vinje II, age 64, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, in Fargo, North Dakota.

Ed was born on January 23, 1940, in Langdon, North Dakota, and graduated from Hazen High School, Hazen, ND, in 1958. As an undergraduate, he studied music at Northwestern University in Chicago, then transferred to the University of North Dakota, where he received a degree in social sciences and foreign languages in 1962. He graduated from Willamette University Law School in Salem, Oregon, in 1965.

Ed practiced law with Hjellum, Weiss, Nerison, Jukkala and Vinje in Jamestown, North Dakota, for 14 years. While in Jamestown, he was active in Rotary Club, South Central District Bar Association, and the Jamestown Choralaires. He was instrumental in the building of the Jamestown Civic Center. In 1980 he moved his law practice to Fargo, where he established Vinje Law Office in 1982. His community activities in Fargo included service on the Fargo Planning Commission and Hope Lutheran Church. During his career, he was also active in the North Dakota State Bar Association. Throughout his life he was active in a number of music organizations.

He is survived by his wife Robyn (Stroup) Vinje; daughters, Marcia Harris (Mark) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Susan Vinje and Andrea Vinje of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Adam Harris of Mesa, AZ, Nicholas, Benjamin and Corinne Harris of Cedar Rapids; brother, Syver (Susan) Vinje of Bismarck, ND; and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice (Skogen) and Dr. Edmund G. Vinje of Hazen, ND.

Visitation: Wednesday, July 28 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo.

Funeral: Thursday, July 29, 2:00 p.m., at Hope Lutheran Church (North) in Fargo, with interment following at Riverside Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home for the Vinje Scholarship Fund to be established in his memory for the benefit of students who attend the University of North Dakota.
