Eight to vie for four seats on Moorhead School Board

MOORHEAD - Eight candidates, including all of the incumbents, have filed for the four seats up for election this fall on the Moorhead School Board.

The seats all carry four-year terms.

Incumbents whose current terms end at the close of 2012 are:

• Michael Siggerud, 972 37th Ave. S., No. 3. He has served on the school board since January 2004.

• Trudy Wilmer, 6203 Oakport St. N. She has served on the board since January 2011. She was appointed by the board to a two-year term after the first-place candidate in the November 2010 election said he was unable to take the office.

She was the second-place vote-getter in that election.

• Cindy Fagerlie, 409 Horn Ave. She has served since January 2004. She is the board's vice-chairwoman.

• Lisa Erickson, 326 48th Ave. SW. She has served since January 2000. Erickson is currently chairwoman of the board.

The challengers are:

• Scott Steffes, 5804 3rd St. N.

• John Rowell, 1216 15th St. S.

• Paul Baker, 1727 33rd St. S.

• Matt Valan, 4994 110th Ave. S.

The deadline to file was Tuesday. Candidates have until 5 p.m. today to withdraw from the race.

To be listed on the ballot, candidates had to submit an affidavit of candidacy and pay a $2 filing fee.

The school board is made up of seven residents of Independent School District 152 who are elected to at-large seats.

School board members are paid $800 a month.

The school board election will be held Nov. 6 in conjunction with the general election.
