WOLVERTON, Minn. - An elderly man was killed Wednesday when the car he was driving collided with a grain truck northeast of Wolverton, Wilkin County Sheriff Tom Matejka said.
The accident was reported around 11:30 a.m. on Wilkin County Road 3, about a mile south of the Clay County line, Matejka said.
The elderly man was northbound in a silver passenger car when he apparently swerved suddenly into the southbound lane, hitting the oncoming grain truck head-on, Matejka said.
The truck driver estimated he was going between 50 and 55 mph, so the driver of the car was likely killed on impact, Matejka said.
The truck driver was shook up after the accident but uninjured, he said.

The elderly man who died was from the Sabin area. His identity is expected to be released this morning.
Authorities are investigating whether a medical condition might have contributed to the accident. An autopsy was planned at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, Matejka said.
The man is at least the 17th person killed in a car accident during the past five days in Minnesota.
Clay County Sheriff's authorities, Minnesota State Patrol, Barnesville Fire Department and Wolverton first responders assisted Wilkin County in responding to the accident.
