Eleanor P. Swenson

Eleanor P. Noreen was born March 13, 1908, in Eglon Township, Clay County, MN, to Andrew and Anna (Olson) Noreen. She attended country school at Clay County District #61. She was married to Paul Swenson, a lifetime neighbor and friend, on February 4, 1928. Eleanor and Paul rented a number of farmsteads until 1959, when they bought her family's farm and farmed near Hawley. Paul passed away on July 30, 1976. Eleanor worked at Fred's Bakery, Garrick Café, Sorenson Café and at the Hawley School. She also used to paint and wallpaper homes for people. Eleanor was an active member of the Swedish Mission Church, which later changed to Dale Covenant Church; she was currently a member of Hawley United Methodist Church. She was the president of the Young Peoples Society, president and treasurer of Ladies Aid, and also taught Sunday school. Eleanor resided at the Hawley Manor, Hawley, MN, for five years before moving to the Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen, MN. Eleanor died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen, MN, at the age of 95.

She is survived by two daughters, Lorraine Aakre, Hawley, MN and Lois (Gary) Johnson, Mesa, AZ; sister-in-law's, Mildred Noreen and Alice Noreen, of Hawley, MN; 11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and 7 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, and three brothers.

Visitation: Wednesday, July 2, 2003, 5-7 PM, with a Prayer service at 7 PM, at Vigen Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN, and also one hour prior to the services at the Church on Thursday.

Funeral services: Thursday, July 3, 2003, 11 AM, at Hawley United Methodist Church.
