Electrical fire on power pole causes traffic problems

FARGO-The Fire Department here responded to an electrical power pole fire at the intersection of Main Avenue and 17th Street at 5:33 a.m. Thursday morning.

FARGO -- Fire crews cleared the scene of an electrical pole that caught fire Thursday morning and left live wires dangling on Main Avenue through much of the morning’s commute time.

Fargo fire battalion chief Craig Nelson said fire crews responded at around 5:33 Thursday morning to a report of an electrical pole that was on in fire in the Main Avenue and 17th Street area.

The pole was on fire near its top and had broken off, leaving live wires dangling, Nelson said.

Traffic was diverted for safety’s sake until Xcel Energy crews could arrive on scene and fix the pole.

The scene was cleared by about 7:50 a.m., Nelson said.
