The Red River Regional Disaster Animal Response Team plans to operate an emergency animal shelter for area residents who might be evacuated due to spring flooding.

The Red River Regional Disaster Animal Response Team plans to operate an emergency animal shelter for area residents who might be evacuated due to spring flooding.

The shelter will be mobilized at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds, when either Fargo or Cass County issues a voluntary evacuation advisory. The advisory means residents should plan to evacuate, as an imminent flood threat is likely within 6 to 48 hours.

The shelter will provide aid only to cats and dogs of Fargo, Moorhead, and Cass and Clay county residents who need to evacuate their homes.

Exotic animals and birds will be accepted by the Red River Zoo. The Cass County Extension office is making plans to assist large animals and livestock.
