HUNTER, N.D. - The Northern Cass School District had 570 children enrolled in grades K-12 for Wednesday's first day of school.
There were 316 children in kindergarten through sixth grade, and 254 children in grades 7-12, a district official said.
Last year, opening day enrollment was 254 students in grades 7-12.
Superintendent Wayne Ulven said everything went well on the first day of the school year.
"The kids looked like they were ready to go back to school," he said.

Ten days ago, the district began construction of a six-classroom addition that will add room for both the elementary and secondary grades, Ulven said.
"Hopefully, it will be done sometime in January," he said.
