FARGO - Prairie Roots Food Co-op, with funding from Essentia Health, is offering 15 free co-op memberships to families with children at Madison Elementary School who are part of the federal free or reduced-price lunch program.
Prairie Roots is opening a grocery store at 1213 NP Ave. this summer. The store will also offer supplemental nutrition products approved by the Women Infants Children program and be authorized for the federal SNAP food aid program.
"We're excited to partner with Prairie Roots because access to healthy food, especially fruits and vegetables, improves health and the ability to learn," said Ann Malmberg, Essentia's director of community health.
Anyone can shop at the co-op, but members get additional benefits and discounts.
The free memberships are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Contact Kaye Kirsch at (701) 446-8781 or kayekirsch@gmail.com for more information.
