DULUTH — Essentia Health is hosting a free and public webinar featuring the author of "Dopesick: America's Epidemic," a book that was adapted into the Hulu series "Dopesick."

Beth Macy, a journalist who aims to help people with similar struggles, will give a 30-minute presentation about the United States' 20-year battle with opioids, according to a news release from Essentia Health. The webinar is 5:30-6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, and will be followed with a 15-minute question-and-answer session.

The presentation will focus on how the battle with opioids started, how it spread, how to help those struggling with addiction and what can be done to end the pandemic.

The event is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service's Health Resources and Services Administration agency. Views of Macy's will not necessarily represent the views of the U.S. government. The grant will also help create a plan to implement prevention, treatment and recovery programming.
