Ethel M. Eidsmoe

Ethel M. Eidsmoe, 87, of Nielsville, MN, died early Tuesday morning, August 19, 2003, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo. Ethel was born at Neilsville on August 14, 1916, the daughter of Olaus and Julia (Paulson) Engelstad. She grew up in Nielsville, and graduated from high school in 1933. On June 3, 1936, Ethel was united in marriage to Melvin C. Eidsmoe at Crookston. The couple settled in Nielsville before moving to Tacoma, WA, then to Los Angeles, CA. In 1946, they returned to the area and made their home in Fargo. In 1949, Melvin and Ethel came back to Nielsville, where they owned and operated Eidsmoe's Café for the next twenty-three years. Ethel began selling insurance with Royal Neighbors in 1967. Her career brought a move to Longmont, CO, and after eight years there, they again returned to Nielsville. Ethel was a State Supervisor for Royal Neighbors in both Colorado and Wyoming, and retired in 1983. Melvin passed away on October 5, 1987.

Ethel was a very active member in St. Petri Lutheran Church, where she held many offices and performed many different duties. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.

Loving family members include two daughters and sons-in-law, Arlene and John Aanden of Herman, MN, and Luverne and James Vettel of Caledonia, ND; a son and daughter-in-law, Myles and Marian Eidsmoe of Forest Grove, OR; nine grandchildren, Mitchell (Robin) Aanden, Lisa (Greg) Hanson, Tim (Sherri) Vettel, Chris Vettel, Pam (Matt) Koehmstedt, Jeff (Marcia) Vettel, Terry Eidsmoe, Catherine (Shawn) Hansen, and Tricia Eidsmoe; twelve great-grandchildren, Isaac, Alexander, and Samuel Hanson, David, Haley, and Caitlyn Fickel, Matthew, Maggie, Emily, and Noah Vettel, and Sophia and Nathan Hansen; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Besides her husband Melvin, Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mabel, Alice, and Hilda; and brothers, Oscar and Harry.

The funeral service for Ethel Eidsmoe will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2003, at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Nielsville, MN. Visitation will be for one hour before the funeral at the church. Interment will be in the St. Petri Lutheran Cemetery.
