Extra seat belt enforcement in January

WEST FARGO – Forty-six law enforcement agencies across the state are participating in extra seat belt enforcement this month, North Dakota Department of Transportation officials said Tuesday.

The extra enforcement includes agencies in the southeast part of the state, including West Fargo police, North Dakota state troopers and Cass County Sheriff’s deputies.

North Dakota State University police officers, Ransom County Sheriff’s deputies and other local officers and sheriff’s deputies also are participating.

Seat belt enforcement is being emphasized in rural areas.
In 2013, about 88 percent of North Dakota’s driving fatalities were in rural areas.

January’s seat belt enforcement will take the form of tickets issued by patrol officers to remind people of the importance of seat belts.

Extra patrols will be added throughout the month of January.
