The Fargo Air Museum plans a $1 million expansion that would add a World War II wing.

The project, announced at a press conference Tuesday at the museum, 1609 19th Ave. N., would include a 22,500-square-foot addition on the museum's northeast corner.

If fundraising goes well, construction would begin in the spring. The new wing would open next September, said Douglas Anderson, the museum's executive director.

The existing 22,500-square-foot museum opened four years ago. It seeks to educate the public, especially children, about aircraft, aviation and patriotism.

Now the museum needs more space to display all the aircraft donated to it, Anderson said.

Project leaders for the expansion are Fargo businessmen Warren Diederich, Fred Scheel and Ed Stern.

The three served in World War II.
