Fargo business looks to expand in historic neighborhood

FARGO - The owner of a business located in one of Fargo's historic neighborhoods is looking to expand.

Steven Stremick of Select Financial Service is looking into purchasing the Hawthorne Neighborhood homes on both sides of his existing business at 1155 13th Ave. S.

Stremick plans to ask the city commission tonight for a tax break to help in the demolition of the houses at 1109 13th Ave. S. and 1224 University Drive S., he said this afternoon.

Stremick plans to add on to his existing businesses using the two new properties, he said.

Stremick doesn't yet own the homes, but said he was approached by one of the homeowners and is ready to purchase them.

In 2009, several members of the Hawthorne Neighborhood Association protested an electronic-messaging sign Stremick built in the front yard of his existing business on the corner of University Drive and 13th Avenue South.
