The Fargo City Commission will get its first look tonight at an updated sign code.

The city spent more than a year overhauling the code, which has met opposition from the business community and sign industry.

The new code places restrictions on billboards, portable signs and electronic messaging centers.

The planning commission approved the draft in August.

The commission is also set to consider business owner Jon Vannett's Bar Hopper vehicle.

Vannett is seeking approval to allow riders aboard his 15-seat, pedal-powered vehicle drink alcohol.

Fargo Police Chief Keith Ternes has said the practice would violate Fargo's drinking in public laws.

The meeting starts at 5 p.m. at Fargo City Hall, 207 4th St. N.
