FARGO – A Republican state senator from Fargo who had been mentioned as a possible candidate for North Dakota insurance commissioner has announced he will seek that office in 2016.
Sen. Jonathan Casper, an attorney and small business owner in his first term as a legislator, announced his decision Monday.
"I am humbled by the encouragement I received from community, business, and legislative leaders throughout North Dakota to run for Insurance Commissioner but I have decided not to pursue this campaign and instead continue working on behalf of my constituents in Fargo as their State Senator,” Casper said in a news release. “North Dakota is full of promise and opportunity and I look forward to continuing to help build a better future for our state for years to come."
Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm has said he will not seek re-election.
