WEST FARGO - A Fargo man potentially faces drunken driving and fleeing charges after police say he led an officer on a pursuit early today in West Fargo.

At 2:21 a.m., a West Fargo police officer tried to catch up to a vehicle to stop it for speeding in the 1600 block of Ninth Street East. As the officer made a U-turn, he saw the truck rapidly accelerate to more than 50 mph, according to a news release from police.

The officer clocked the truck at 54 mph and 65 mph in a 35-mph zone, the release stated.

The officer caught up to the truck, but the driver didn't stop for the lights and siren, instead traveling slowly for three to five blocks before stopping in an apartment lot in the 500 block of Amber Valley Parkway, the release stated.

The officer held the driver at gunpoint until backup arrived.
