FARGO - Residents are encouraged to stop what they're doing for one minute at noon on Sunday in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Mayor Dennis Walaker invites residents to pause and mark the moment with silence, ringing bells or blowing whistles. The Fargo Fire Department will observe the minute by sounding their sirens, and Fargo police will reflect with a moment of silence.

Other events include:

  • Local emergency responders from both sides of the Red River will also sponsor a separate ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Sunday on the Veterans Memorial Bridge between Fargo and Moorhead. Firefighters, peace officers and EMTs from the metro will march two blocks to the center of the bridge. Each side will carry a wreath and be escorted by honor guards. The Rev. Steve Burrell will say a short prayer, followed by a moment of silence until 8:59 a.m., at which time the wreaths will be dropped into the Red River.
  • The Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County will host a free exhibit from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday titled “Aftermath: Images From Ground Zero; Photographs by Joel Meyerowitz.”
