FARGO - The Fargo School Board will debate tonight whether to require votes by the public on certain school construction projects.

The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. at the district office, 415 4th St. N.

This will be the second time around for the school construction debate. The issue was debated at the last meeting as well, and was then given to the governance committee for more work.

Board member John Strand's resolution calls for a public vote on any new construction project that uses the district's Building Authority to fund it and payments for the work comes out of the general fund. The public would have to approve the project by a greater than 50 percent vote.

The board will also vote on whether to change elementary school boundaries at schools south of Interstate 94 to even out enrollments.

Enrollment growth has been particularly strong for Kennedy Elementary, with fifth-graders from that school being taught in classrooms at Discovery Middle School.

Several options were explored to handle the growth, with the planning committee recommending boundary changes.
