FARGO - The school board voted 8-0 Tuesday to approve the latest extension to its school bus contract with Valley Bus Co.
The contract calls for a 3.54 percent increase in mileage payments and 3.5 percent increase in trip payments over the 2010-11 base payments.
The rates are adjusted yearly based on the Consumer Price Index, which increased about 3.6 percent over the last year.
Contracted prices include rural routes rising to $4.04 per mile, up from $3.90.
The Energy Saver contract, separate from the rest of the transportation contract, was also approved on an 8-0 vote. It covers the daily bus routes taking most children to and from school and shuttle service to the Skills and Technology Center. It is for the next four years.

Energy Saver bus routes will cost $61.84 per hour.
There were also incremental increases for special education buses, and for in-town trips. Business Manager Broc Lietz said it is hoped that the bus contracts can be negotiated as one contract when they reach their end four years from now.
