A Fargo teacher was the only North Dakota winner among nearly 100 teachers across the nation who recently received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Angie Hansen Cook, a second-grade teacher at Kennedy Elementary, has taught for about 13 years.

"It's just really nice to be recognized for all the things I do everyday in the classroom," she said. "I was very excited."

The award is given annually to the best K-12 science and math teachers from across the country.

Being one of 87 recipients, Cook received $10,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C., with her husband this fall, which will include a ceremony at the White House.
