Contractors will begin tearing down the downtown Fargo Second Street clay levee on Friday, and city officials expect the First Avenue North bridge to reopen on Monday.
Tom's Backhoe Service, of Brainerd, Minn., was awarded a contract to remove clay levees north of Interstate 94 with the low bid of $175,280.50, according to a news release from the city.
Excavating Inc. of Fargo, was contracted to remove the levees south of the interstate with the low bid of $55,288.
Crews will first begin working on the Second Street levee in front of Fargo's City Hall. Crews will then continue removing levees on Second Street in front of the High Rise, followed by Oak Street at Eighth Avenue North.
Crews will begin removing sandbags placed along city streets today. Fargo officials estimate about 50 percent of all sandbags have been moved to curbs.

The deadline to apply for assistance is Wednesday.
