Fargo federal Bankruptcy Judge William Hill announced Monday he'll retire later this year after nearly three decades of service.
Hill was appointed U.S. bankruptcy judge for North Dakota in 1983.
Before then, Hill was a part-time U.S. magistrate in the state and served as one of six judges on the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel for the 8th Circuit.
For many years, Hill was also a visiting judge, assisting the bankruptcy courts in Maryland, south Florida, Colorado and Iowa.
Hill graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1971 and Hastings College of Trial Advocacy in 1977.

He plans to begin his retirement Aug. 21, his office said.
