The U.S. Department of Justice is giving Cass County $25,000 to reimburse part of the cost of jailing criminals, said Major Glenn Ellingsberg of the Cass County Sheriff's Department.

The money comes to the county because of federal mandates the county is following.

The county hired Justice Benefits Inc. to research the availability of federal grants to pay for such mandates. Cass County was one of only 741 eligible local government entities that successfully applied for the money.
