An early morning fire Saturday destroyed a one-story, one-bedroom home and a nearby garage about three miles east of Felton, Minn.
A Felton firefighter spotted the blaze in the garage around 6:30 a.m. and woke up the one occupant in the home, at 17264 160th Ave N. The person called authorities and escaped uninjured, according to Steve Wang, assistant Ulen, Minn., fire chief.
Felton and Ulen firefighters were on the scene for about four hours and had some minor difficulties with hoses freezing up, Wang said.
He said determining the cause of the fire will be difficult because the garage, where the blaze is believed to have started, was completely destroyed. The house was not attached to the garage but located nearby.
The Clay County Sheriff's Department, F-M Ambulance and the Salvation Army also responded to the fire.
