FERGUS FALLS, Minn. - A group of residents here is hoping a petition will force a public vote on building a $7 million ice arena.
The City Council passed an ordinance Monday allowing the local port authority to issue bonds for the project's funding, but some residents say that's a decision taxpayers should make.
Resident Daryl Synstelien began circulating the petition after Monday's decision, and 726 residents had signed the petition as of Friday.
The group needs more than 815 signatures before it can submit the petition to the council.
The petition is available to sign from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today and Monday in City Hall Park, 112 W. Washington Ave., and at Scott's Machine Shop, 1611 Pebble Lake Road.
