MOORHEAD - The fire-control sprinkler system at the American Crystal Sugar plant in north Moorhead was activated Saturday evening, causing water
damage and the need for cleanup in the packaging area of the plant, Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Wallin said.
Wallin said crews were dispatched at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
When crews arrived, they found workers had been evacuated and the sprinkler system spraying water in the packaging area, though no fire was discovered.
While it was determined a heat detector had been activated near some packaging equipment, no reason for the alarm and sprinkler activation could be found, Wallin said.
