FARGO - Fire damaged a north Fargo home Thursday night, but fire officials said the damage was limited because of quick action by neighbors.

According to Fargo Fire Department report on the incident:

The fire started around the front door light of a home at 3117 8th St. N. about 10 p.m. It was put out by neighbors who used a portable extinguisher.

The neighbors told firefighters they did not believe anyone was at home because no one responded to pounding on the door, but firefighters entered the house and found two adults and a child who were asleep.

No one was injured in the fire but the house suffered about $2,000 worth of damage.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, but Assistant Fire Chief Larry Schuh said there was a bird nest near the light and one possibility is the light bulb started the nest on fire. He said the fire may have spread from that to combustible material beneath the metal siding of the house.
