WINDSOR, N.D. - Fire destroyed a home and garage near Windsor Thursday evening. No injuries were reported.

Russell Trautman, firefighter for the Cleveland (N.D.) Fire Department, said the fire was reported at 8:20 p.m. at the Marvin Wanzek home, about a mile and a half south of Windsor. He said the fire apparently started in a garage and had spread to the ranch-style home by the time firefighters arrived about 20 minutes later.

"Everybody was evacuated from the house, pets included," he said.

A couple live in the residence, he said.

Firefighters were on the scene until 2 a.m. Friday. Twelve firefighters and six trucks/pumpers were used to battle the blaze.

"It was a very long night," Trautman said. He said firefighters were disappointed they could not save the home.

Beth Dewald, manager of the Buffalo Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, said the Red Cross provided food and water to the firefighters. The Red Cross also provided clothing, personal hygiene items and emotional care to the couple who lost their home. They are staying with family, Dewald added.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Trautman said.
