First-round winners in the "My Journey, My Story" writing contest, sponsored by the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County at the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead, are:
Fargo South High School Campus II: Level 1, Musungit Jarso, originally from Kenya, first; Hung Dao, originally from Vietnam, second; and Zixing He, originally from China, third. Level 2: Binod Acharya, originally from Nepal, first; and Yajuamungo Kiromba, originally from Congo, second. Titus Doboyou, originally from Liberia, won first place in Level 3. All of the students are taught by ELL teacher Teri Smith.
For the non-ELL category, two entries tied for first place: Harshita Gaba, originally from India, and Anjali Lall, of Indian immigrant parents.
From West Fargo High School, Oleevya Yousif, originally from Iraq, first, Level 1.
The deadline for the second round of the writing contest is Jan. 31. The contest and exhibit are running in conjunction with the "Becoming American: Teenagers and Immigration" Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service exhibit now on display at the Hjemkomst Center.

The first-prize winners from each participating school will have their photos and essays included in the exhibit.
